Why Use Thermography

All objects that are above absolute zero emit thermal or infrared radiation.  The human eye is unable to detect thermal energy because the wavelength of the energy is too long, but the human body is able to sense thermal energy through the nerve ending in the body.  The heat that you feel from a campfire or coolness of a cold beverage is the body sensing infrared radiation. In a sense the nerve endings in a human body can be thought of as a type of infrared radiation detector.  The only problem is that each individual body would interpret the infrared radiation differently.

In order to consistently interpret the amount of infrared radiation being emitted by objects special very sensitive cameras have been developed to detect and translate the infrared radiation into a visual picture.

Since all objects above absolute zero, emit thermal or infrared radiations the possible applications of Thermography is only limited by our imagination.  Thermography is currently being used in industries such as Oil and Natural Gas production, Quality Control for Manufacturing, Veterinary Medicine, Law Enforcement, Forestry Services, Insurance Inspections, Commercial Building Inspections and Home Energy Audits etc.  The list of possible applications is endless.
